How to Easily Cancel Unwanted Subscriptions on an iPhone

February 9, 2023

A large number of businesses have moved towards a subscription model in the last couple of years. Whether it’s streaming services, music, audiobooks, food delivery, or any other kind of service, these subscriptions can quickly add up without you even noticing. You may not realize that you have been subscribed to certain services that you don’t need or use, having fees regularly come out of your bank account.

Therefore, it is recommended to regularly review your subscriptions and make sure you actually use all of them. Follow these instructions for two easy ways to cancel unwanted subscriptions on your iPhone.

How to cancel subscriptions through the Settings

One of the quickest and most straightforward ways to cancel your subscriptions is through your iPhone settings.

In order to do this, go to “Settings,” click on “iTunes & App Store,” then tap on your Apple ID at the top of the screen and enter your password or use Touch ID to unlock it. Once you’ve accessed your Apple ID, tap on “Subscriptions” – this will present you with all services that you are subscribed to on your iPhone. You are now able to look through them, select them and cancel by choosing the “Cancel Subscription” option and tapping on “Confirm.”

How to cancel subscriptions in the App Store

If you have subscribed to a service directly through an app, this subscription may not come up in your Settings. Therefore, you will have to cancel it right in the App Store instead. The process for this is just as simple, however.

To do this, open your App Store and tap on your profile photo/avatar. Next, select the “Subscriptions” option and view all active subscriptions. Once you are presented with all of your subscribed services, you will be able to easily hit “Cancel Subscription” and confirm your selection.

Having problems canceling a subscription?

In some cases, Apple users will experience issues trying to cancel a service they know they are subscribed to but cannot find in either of the above options (the Apps Store or Settings). There could be a couple of different reasons for this.

Firstly, the subscription may be already been canceled. Perhaps you already did it through the app and forgot, or it got automatically canceled due to an expired payment method. If you think this could be the case, have a look at the “Expired” section in your App Store subscription list – it should be visible there.

Moreover, not all of your subscriptions may appear in the App Store simply because they aren’t managed through it. For example, such services as Netflix, Adobe, Disney, or Amazon ask you to sign up and subscribe to them through their own websites. Therefore, in order to cancel them, you will have to do it directly through them.

Of course, in some instances, apps may simply be experiencing some kind of service disruptions or errors that will prevent you from being able to manage them. This will normally get resolved by the app developers shortly, so you can simply try again at a later time. If you are in a rush to cancel a subscription, however, if it is about to renew and charge you for it, for instance, then the best thing to do in this situation is contact the service provider directly.
