Non-Certified Roku Channels, also called Hidden or Private Channels, are channels that cannot be accessed directly from the official Roku channel store. These channels have to be manually added using the code provided by the channel developers.

A channel might be classified as non-certified for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they are a third-party channel, they might be in beta version, or they might contain adult content. These channels are completely legal to access, as Roku themselves have provided an option to access these channels using their device.

Why Does Roku Have Non-Certified Channels?

According to Roku’s website, non-certified Roku channels help Developers to test out their channels. This is because these channels can reach out to a smaller set of audience and allow developers to take feedback and improve upon it before publishing the channel in the Roku Channel Store.

Some publishers may also wish to limit the distribution of channels to a certain group of people – E.g. A company might want to start a channel for just their employees, so the code to access this channel is only provided to those employees.

Here are the steps through which you can add non-certified channels to your Roku device.

Step 1: Go to the Roku official website – https://www.roku.com.

Step 2: Once you log in, you will see an option called “My Account”. Click on it.

Step 3: Here, you will find an option called “Add channel with a code” under the Manage Account section. Select it.

Step 4: This is the Add Channel page. Enter your secret code and click on “Add channel” to add the non-certified channel to your device.
