An understanding of Terranode begins with reflection on the contemporary relationship of art and nature. Whether in the cave paintings of Altamira or the landscape paintings of more recent centuries, artists have long portrayed the natural world. Yet today humans have it within their power to preserve or transform the… (more) conditions of life, even to the point of melting the polar icecaps and tinkering with genetic codes. Rather than producing fine landscape paintings, many artists now address the destruction of the landscape itself. They contend with human behavioral trends that are detrimental to the survival of 'nature. Terranode exists because environmental sustainability now requires human cooperation more than ever before. As human perceptions about the world have become more and more influenced by media, it has become increasingly important to bridge the gap between specialized knowledge and public awareness. (less)
