What is MyBnk: MyBnk is a social enterprise whose aim is to increase financial literacy and to develop young people’s enterprise skills by giving them a hands-on experience of organizing, running and using a real bank with real money. How does it work: MyBnk will set up ‘MyBnk Branches’ also known as ‘MyBnk-in-a-Box’ in… (more) secondary schools and in youth organisations that will provide a convenient place for young people and clubs to save and take out loans. Cooperative and individual savings will be encouraged. Young people can put their good ideas into practise by taking out small (interest free) loans that can be used towards the development of new enterprises. MyBnk also does: · Ideas-in-a-box: Ideas and guidelines for those that want to set up an enterprise but don’t have an idea. · Coop savings: Encouraging & facilitating groups to save for - the group - the community - to change the world · Peer-to-peer training: ‘Hats’ An innovative workshop on how to be a successful entrepreneur that involves wearing different hats and developing a toolkit. Young people will be trained to deliver this workshop to their peers. · Youth led research activity: ‘Shop for a bank don’t let the bank shop for you’ Young people will compare banks by looking at: - what services they offer (freebees included) - where the banks invest their money - what their ethical and social responsibilities are Competitions: “Turn £10 into 100 smiles” (generate social change) “Turn £10 into £100” (generate financial profit)
