Hulu is an online video on demand service and video sharing platform that offers a continuously increasing array of exclusive, premium-quality TV shows and movies from the NBC and FOX networks, as well as from their numerous cable networks. It is designed to be "a single source of free, on-demand programming from some of… (more) the most popular studios and online networks, helping viewers quickly and easily find and enjoy the premium content they are looking for."
Hulu has a two-tiered distribution structure: The site aims to be a destination for free, streaming, ad-supported television shows and films as well as a syndication service, distributing that content across the Web through partnerships with AOL, Yahoo, MSN, MySpace and others. In addition to NBC and FOX programs, it also carries shows from Bravo, Fuel TV, FX, Sci Fi, Style, Sundance, and Oxygen channels.
The viewing selection ("Browse TV") consists of full episodes and segments from over 400 different TV shows, some no longer on the air, some in syndication, and many still currently running, but Hulu offers these shows in high-quality form, from the networks themselves, available for user-controlled viewing anytime, as well as for sharing or editing (a feature known as “clipping”). Shows that get the most traffic on the site include The Simpsons, Arrested Development, Family Guy, and Saturday Night Live, which had hitherto only been available online in lower-quality (and illegal) versions.
