Queensland, Australia

We met in the early 1980's and have lived, worked and travelled together ever since. Hew Chee Fong is an ethnic Chinese born in Malaysia, educated in England and an Australian citizen since his early twenties. L.M.Noonan is Australian born of Irish, Italian and Albanian descent. We met as postgraduate art students and after a holiday in Southeast Queensland decided to move to the Sunshine Coast in 1987. We have been owner building ever since. We share a love of Asian architecture, artefacts and culture, but...our respective art practices are as far removed from each other as can be imagined. Fong is an abstract sculptor who strives to define form in space. He studies the material of latent shapes and the qualities of natural stone striving to reveal the formal essence of what previously lay hidden and dormant in the material, he is interested in aspects of Zen, Taoism and Fung Shui.L.M.Noonan works in a variety of mediums. Her work has always been about the human condition and carries a strong political message. It explores the age old issues of race, religion, age and gender. As individuals we have exhibited both nationally and internationally.
