Beyond the Birds and the Bees is an online resource where folks can share accounts of how they were educated about sexuality by their first and arguably most important teachers — their parents. We’ll also turn the tables and explore the ways in which adults sometimes need to educate their families in the art of acceptance. We’ll look at how people pass on information about sexuality, what’s effective, what’s not, and what’s downright funny.
Designed to be a place where folks can go for information, shared experiences both wonderful and horrifying, and of course laughter, Beyond the Birds and the Bees in time will host thousands of accounts as diverse as naming body parts, coming out to family members, learning about the mechanics and the emotions of sex, dealing with abuse, teaching methods of birth control, disclosing assault, celebrating puberty, handling sex as it relates to disability and discussing menopause with our mothers and daughters.
